he advanced technology for performing multiple operations in a single process
unit.
PATTERSON
Mil-Reactor® uniformly mix materials while they are being reacted, maintaining
consistent heat transfer rates and producing final product of desired particle size
The versatile PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® does processing
normally requiring two or more units. The system combines the functions of a ball mill and
a reactor for grinding with carefully controlled temperature and pressure conditions. The Mil-Reactor®
is designed and adaptable for many processes including solid to solid reactions,
liquid to solid reactions, gas to solid reactions, simultaneous drying and grinding -
either batch or continuously. Access lines through the Mil-Reactor®
Trunnion permit addition of liquids, slurries or gases while the mill is in operation.
Vapors may also be removed while solids are being dried.
The Mil-Reactor®
process takes advantage of the fact that during the milling operation there is a continual
increase of the surface of the solid - a surface which at the time of this renewal is at
its optimum condition for a subsequent mass transfer or chemical reaction.
PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® achieve high rates of mass transfer and/or
chemical kinetics while reducing labor costs. The high efficiency, compact design provides
factors of lower capital investment through its versatile performance, low maintenance
operation and efficient space utilization.
PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® applications
include:
- Reaction process between solids and gas.
- The handling of solids as slurries, drying, reacting with gas and re-slurrying.
- Fine wet grinding of solids and removing a slurried product.
- Fine dry grinding by addition of solids to the mill in the form of slurry, drying,
reducing size, re-slurrying and removing from the mill as slurry. In this process, air is
excluded by sealing the Mil-Reactor® with inert gas.
- The reaction and size reduction of two solids with or without removal of gaseous
by-product.
PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® are built in sizes from 16 to 3000 USG total
capacity for operating at pressures from full vacuum to 500 psig. The heat transfer jacket
is designed for pressures to 150 psig and may be used for heating at temperatures up to
600°F or for cooling. The controlled temperature can be obtained using Heat Transfer
fluids, Steam, Hot Gases, etc.
The Mil-Reactor® permits the processing of materials requiring one or
more operations within a single process unit.
Trunnion access allows addition or extraction of slurries or gases.
A filter mounted at top of the Mil-Reactor® interior retains solids
while permitting gases to escape through the trunnion.
PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® can utilize counter-current flow of liquids
and solids for maximum reaction and efficiency.
Simultaneous milling and extraction of energy constantly presents fresh surfaces for
mass transfer of the solvent-solid constituents that result in highly increased rates of
mass transfer.
The PATTERSON Mil-Reactor® can be vented for removal of gas without
loss of liquid or solid constituents.
Designed, manufactured, tested and inspected in accordance with the ASME Code, Section
VIII, Division I and with the stamp of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel
Inspectors.
Units can be individually designed to customer's material specifications and process
parameters. Complete the Mil-Reactor® Specification Sheet and submit by
e-mail or fax to PATTERSON for quotation.
